Future homeowners who are just beginning to embark on a new home build may find the entire project overwhelming to envision. This daunting feeling is unsurprising, as visualising an entirely constructed home from scratch can seem to be an arduous and time-consuming process. Fortunately, even with the endless details that need to be followed up on as well as plans to be drawn up, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Being able to foresee how the construction process of homes will move along would probably make it easier for you to navigate the project. The following is a generalised list of the different stages to expect when you are constructing a new home.
Stage 1: Purchasing the lot and drawing up house designs
Lot purchase and the designing of the blueprints fall into the same category as some people may have either one or none before they start the construction project. For individuals that already have designs drawn up, they would need to find a lot in conjunction with their architect to make sure that it would fit their home construction plans. On the other hand, you could start by putting down money for your land and then draw up your blueprints, as this would ensure your custom home build would befit the space allocated to you.
Stage 2: Preparation of the site and putting up the framework
Once you have decided what your new home will look like, the lot has to be prepped for construction. Several steps go into the preparation of the lot. To start, the contractors will clear the land of any bushes, shrubs and trees that would impede the construction process. After the area is cleared, the site is then graded so that the ground is level enough for construction. When putting up the framework, there are three main aspects that the contractors seek to accomplish. The first is the footing, followed by the foundation and finally the framework of your future home.
Stage 3: 'Filling the guts' and finishing the construction
The moment the framework goes up, your house is now ready to start taking shape. 'Filling the guts' of the home refers to the contractors installing all the various systems that would be pertinent for comfortable living. At this stage is when your electrical system, plumbing system, HVAC system, water connections and more are fitted into the home. The contractors will also install insulation before the finishing touches are put on the walls. Once the insides of the home are done with, you can then proceed to the final touches for example cabinetry, moulding, painting and so on.
